Man can erect the most beautiful buildings, which last for 2,500 years and still impress with their shape and size, but the surrounding nature is the true source of beauty.
The photos show the temple of Segesta, one of the oldest settlements on Sicily. The Elymians, one of the ancient people of Sicily, built the temple around 430/420 BC, but never finished it. It is still in surprisingly good shape, though.

What a sight, it must be just before the arch was in common use circa 400bc I think….
always reminds me of Buckingham palace or a Rolls Royce front grill. Colour is enchanting.
Andreas, I love your stunning photographs and your observation that nature is always more beautiful than man-made creations.
I’m also impressed that your photographs of Segesta are free from crowds of tourists….
We (my Dad and me) were there in March, before the beginning of the tourist season. I don’t know why tourists flock to Sicily in July and August, when it is unbearably hot, because March and April are the perfect time, when everything is blossoming.
There were a few other tourists around, but the area is quite large and so they dispersed well.
