Books to give away

Zur deutschen Fassung.

I think they have become useless.

Admittedly, these are somewhat older editions. But law school was one Cold War ago.

I also ask you for a minute of silence for the US State Department lawyers, who, with much creativity, might have come up with some justification for the US attack on Venezuela, if only the President hadn’t held a press conference like a Mafia boss after a heist.

Ha, ha. What a wild weird and scary start to 2026. And it’s only 4 January.

    • My New Year’s resolution to spend less time following the news and less time online is not coming along very well either.

But it’s Greenland that I am really worried about.

That’s why I accepted an early retirement offer from the Department of Justice. In 20 years at DOJ, I defended many policies/decisions with which I did not agree, but I won’t defend the indefensible. 😔

    • Congratulations on that decision!

I often wonder about the people who stay on board, arguing that they have more influence on the inside and that otherwise, their job would be done by someone more partisan.
I understand the theory behind this, but in an administration that so blatantly disrespects laws, rules and norms, I am not sure if it still makes a difference.
(Also, it is telling that this argument often comes from people who just bought a house or who are paying their children’s tuition.)

I am just glad that I am in private practice, where I can fire my clients when they become too crazy.
