As many churches and castles with beautiful towers you may build, one guy is going to dwarf them all by building a huge chimney.

Are you sure it’s not a supergun?
Oh no! What a shame! It seems to be a Baltic curse – for every beautiful place/building, there are 10 competing monstrosities!
But I personally also found many things beautiful or at least interesting that others might find awful. For example the massive Soviet architecture. Maybe it was because I didn’t grow up with it and thus it is something new, foreign, exotic to me, but I found some of its examples (like the Academy of Sciences building in Riga) very beautiful.
I even found these Soviet-style apartment blocks quite cozy: https://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2013/03/03/savanoriu-prospektas-winter-evening/
I lived in a couple like that. I guess anything can look nice with the right lighting ;) I don’t have a problem with the Academy of Sciences building actually – I quite like it – same as the one in Warsaw!
Very unique architecture that is pleasing to my eyes.
