We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.
I highly recommend Elie Wiesel’s book Night, a short but powerfully moving biography-novel.

The Happy Hermit 
I’m embarrassed to admit that though I’ve often heard of Night, I’ve never read it (I have read others of his works).
I’ll have to get hold of it and read it now.
I, on the other hand, have not yet read any of his other books.
