Sad Things (# 5) Talented Teenagers

Sad: Seeing this teenager putting so much time and effort into perfecting a skill which society won’t appreciate and knowing that in 10 years’ time he will be bossed around by one of his former classmates who is much more boring but who used the same time to study for the maths exam instead of playing with knives.

About Andreas Moser

Travelling the world and writing about it. I have degrees in law and philosophy, but I'd much rather be a writer, a spy or a hobo.

Of course, certain … organizations *ahem ahem* are always looking for people with his skills.

  2. He’ll do fine, as long as a knife is considered an essential tool. Either the military or organised crime should be good career fields – or maybe the next Gordon Ramsey? (Hey, he can supplant Gordon one of two ways – one more legal than the other. ;) )

I don’t know if putting lots of time to learn this skill makes you any less boring than the classmate who used the time to study math. The bossing part is really sad, but for me the reason is that the classmate who used a lot of time to study math should not be bossing anyone around but using his math skills to do science or other important and interesting things.

by learning this skill he may be training some part of the brain which is dormant or has become dormant in most humans

so while quite a few would be good at adding one plus one, he may be better at confronting some super extra intelligent aliens when the time comes for them to attack Earth

  5. Gerry says:

I’ve never been bossed around by people who studied during their school years, quite the opposite!
But I never worked for lawyers ;-)
