Taliban on the Transfagarasan

Now I know why the Transfăgărășan is closed in winter.

  1. Quite a breathtaking view though.

  2. Note that winter ends beginning of June, when the road opens again. I noticed when I went there last year in May, the top was still covered with snow!

    • It’s incredible when you consider how relatively mild it is in the rest of Romania even now.

I was at the Transfagarasan in December and I could drive to the (lower) cable car station. From the cable car, one could see the rest of the road, but it was completely covered in snow and barely distinguishable from the rest of the landscape.
